David, Gary and I really enjoyed doing the Thimbleweed Park 1 podcast and want to continue it for Thimbleweed Park 2, but there are a couple of issues.
First is where to host. I’m not a consumer of podcasts, so I don’t know all the ins-and-outs. I assume Dropbox isn’t a good idea.
The Thimbleweed Park 1 podcast was hosted on SoundCloud and for reason I don’t fully remember I had a free account, but a few years ago they started charging me so I pull them all down and saved them so I can re-post later.
For Thimbleweed Park 2 we need to find a place to host that 1) Doesn’t charge a lot of money and 2) doesn’t insert ads in the middle. I also don’t want to have to upload them to 5 different places, I want one place that all podcast apps can read from.
The second issue is they took a lot of time. It basically ate up half of my Saturday recording and editing, prepping, and uploading the podcast.
We need to find someone that will take on that job (paid). I’m not asking for volunteers so please don’t suggest yourself unless it is literally your day job.
I’d also like to upload them to YouTube, not as video podcasts, but just audio and maybe an pixel image of each of us when we are talking.
There are few (physics) podcasts I listen to that do this. It works well for me.
Stay tuned and we hope to start recording in the next month or so. Lots of fun design stuff to talk about.

Spotify is a morally bankrupt company that screws over musicians, so I'd rather not support them. But maybe everyone does that at this point.
Transistor is currently $19/month and Podbean Unlimited Audio is $17/month ($12/month annually), and neither requires you to enable inserted advertising.
Also, YouTube can now ingest a podcast RSS feed directly. It automatically turns each audio episode into a video using the podcast artwork and uploads new episodes as they appear in the RSS feed. So if a static image is enough, the YouTube part can basically be automated too.
If you want the Ron/David/Gary pixel portraits to switch depending on who's speaking, that would still need to be generated separately by whoever handles the editing/production.
And someone (without the capital letter) already did that with TWP1's podcasts.
Have we done something wrong? 😥
Other than that: self hosting plus RSS feed? I guess there are some solutions out there that solve this problem?

You still need to cut the podcast but at least the audio quality should be automatic.

The technical part is outlined by a video by Graham Stark (co-founder of LRR) in a video titled "How We Do Our "Animated" Podcasts". Search for that on YouTube if you want to see how it was done. Not that you (Ron) would do the technical work, but gives you an example for whomever you hire for the gig.

Libsyn is a cheap host and can also push the audio as a video with image of choice to Youtube. I use that setup for Kodsnack.
Podcast editing isn’t my day job, but I have done editing for pay for a 100+ episodes in addition to 1000+ episodes of ones I’ve been part of.

For the processing of audio to reduce noise and cut all the „ehhh“ and whatever noises we do I use auphonic - it removes silence and coughs as well. Overall a great tool for postproduction

If he's updated his Photoshop (and got frustrated with all keycommand changes, ha ha!) or perhaps he's rocking CS 6 extended? I'm also excited for Octavi now that he's had a couple of years to reach that higher Mark 'Da Pixly' Ferrari next level type of pixelart! Before in TP1 could tell which rooms he'd worked on.
Will i be able to now? That is the question, and Gary left the company (i believe) but now he's back? Did the bigbuck comicbook money ran out? How dare he! As for where you should post the beeping thing. Youtube obviously. You can easily run your lipsync script and have your figures mouths move in Vegas, or whatever video editing software. There's tutorials all over Youtube how to do that stuff. Not rocket science. Best of luck with whatever you choose tho in the end!
Just looked it up and it's 11.25 USD per month if you do an annual plan, and 12 USD if you do month to month.
Youtube, of course, would also be really easy for a lot of people to access.
(But we did it for free, so that rules us out to help this time)
